Down by the Riverside
This is very much in the vein of an old-school folk song. It's basically just about someone's life down by the river. It's where they feel most at home and where they've lived most of their life. In southern states here in America, the riverside is its own subculture.

There's a tugboat, a party cruiser
A bunch of gamblers, a few boozers
A gypsy woman that saved my life
Down by the riverside
Caught a crossin' into Tennessee
Friends, Alabama's okay with me
A few things that I've left behind
Down by the riverside
A baptism, ladies wearing white
"Jesus comin'," they shout all night
I believe 'em, and I pay my tithe
Down by the riverside
The flood waters sound like a moan
By 7 feet they raised my home
I was laughin' as the ladies cried
Down by the riverside
My buddy Lester jumped right in
Washed up somewhere around the bend
They say I gave up, but man i tried
Down by the riverside
Spent a year down in Fort Payne
The grass was green but I went insane
Packed like a hobo and took my pride
Down by the riverside
Gettin' old, my eyes they blur
Damn the sunlight, I 'bout missed her
Asked that pretty girl to be my bride
Down by the riverside
Buried pole ends in the dirt
Need a bite, my stomach hurts
Chubs ain't bad if you eat 'em fried
Down by the riverside
