Little Things 'Bout Life

(Brian Hendrix)

I think this comes from a place that most of us can relate to. Our parents try to instill this wisdom in us when we're young, typically in small doses and in cliched things that just get pushed around. We ignored it when young, often not even wanting to hear it. Yet when we're grown, and especially when we have kids of our own, we end up pushing the same little pearls of wisdom out there.

My favorite piece of wisdom Way back when, daddy told me "If psychics could predict a thing Then they'd win the lottery" He also spoke, those sticks and stones Respect elders, say "Yes, ma'am" Never count your chickens, son And don't tell God your plans (Chorus) All those little things 'bout life Like that silly old advice That you never listened to, but now you see What seemed like meaningless words Helped us all from gettin' hurt And become the same old things we always teach We can't wait to say it, man; and, well, I tell it twice Hoping my kids learn those little things 'bout life I say "Life is what you make it" And "Be glad to give but not receive" Then I see those eyes a-rollin' Like I'm old and plain crazy "Keep your room neat" and "Elbow grease" Seem to fall on their deaf ears Though when they've finally grown up Bet they remember they used to hear (Chorus)

The Oriole Who Was a Schoolyard Bully 'til His Wing Broke

By Brian Hendrix

A song I wrote based on the ongoing saga of the birds underneath my lilac bush. There's one big fat oriole under there who used to shriek and fight any other bird that would try to get to his patch of dirt. But there's always someone out there bigger and tougher.

Just Like My Daddy Raised Me

By Brian Hendrix

A song I wrote about how a lot of people tell me I look and act like my father. I think this is something a lot of men can relate to, how we end up our father's sons. I'm really happy with how this turned out. It's one of those songs that hit home more for me now since my father passed away. It's a classic style of country song here, to be sure.

A Real Good Place to Start

By Brian Hendrix

Just listening to a playlist of old country music one day, and yet another song comes on with the theme "I'm sorry I cheated. It won't happen again. I love you!" It just drove me crazy. Where are the songs asking people not to cheat? So, I figured I'd write one. This is about not making that mistake and respecting the one you're with. Is that not a real good place to start?

My Last Girlfriend Was An Outlaw

By Brian Hendrix

I've written a lot of western-themed songs, but this is probably the one I had the most fun with. It basically just tells the story, from a man's perspective, about how his girlfriend was an outlaw and robbed banks and shot people. I had a lot of fun with this, a fast-paced country-western song that would probably sound great on radio.
