We Can't Get Through

(Brian Hendrix)

This is a more emotional take on two people who were once in love but now can't seem to reach each other. It's the male in the relationship lamenting about the love lost, and he wants that love back, but it could work from any gender perspective to be sure. I just happen to be a guy, so that's my perspective for writing.

I woke up on a Thursday, you were sleeping like the weekend Calm and peaceful, soft and slow, and I just watched you breathin' I thought about those days removed, I would've woke you up To play and laugh and talk and walk and fill the night with love You're resting and I'm tired We're acting like our date's expired But every urge I got now's to jump on top of you (Chorus) Is it too late to call the dogs off that you got chasin' me 'round Is it too early to claim the game's lost, before I lay my money down Would you think weak the same apologies that you've heard so many times Would it be wise for me to take a leap and assume your state of mind Would you listen to a single thing I said to you Or is the best of us behind a bolted door we can't get through I'd say I never meant to hurt you, and that wasn't my intention You'd say love can do some crazy things we might not wanna mention But this time you just lay silent, and I can't find the words There ain't enough air in the room to put a voice to hurt You're angry and I'm sad We're a few steps past the had But if we're a thing that we can fix, I'd like to try (Chorus)

Not in This Life

By Brian Hendrix

We probably all get to thinking from time to time about things that we cannot change, and then we start thinking about how we'd change them anyway. If only the "this" was the "that," we could definitely change things. This song is just a way to touch on that a little bit, speaking about how we can't really change fixed things in this life.

Sing Me to Sleep

By Brian Hendrix

A song told from the perspective of both a man and a woman. A man describing the woman, and the woman's request to be sang to while falling asleep. Pretty simplistic concept but enough room to have fun trying to expand on the imagery within a short window.

Hey, Comet

By Brian Hendrix

I got to thinking about seeing Halley's Comet when I was just a kid, and then wondering if I would live long enough to see it come back 'round again. This is just a simple folk song about a comet and how a person wonders about their relationship in the universe relative to the comet's.

Sang Like Elvis

By Brian Hendrix

Far and away, one of the best I ever wrote, and I have no idea where I even came up with the idea. A song jumped into my head during the middle of a power outage in a thunderstorm, and I kept wondering "Where have I heard that song before?" Turns out, I hadn't. It was just playing in my head, so I wrote it. A gift from the thunder, maybe. About a guy telling a story of his uncle who used to be a popular Elvis impersonator for a living. I'm in love with this song. I'm hesitant to list it here. I really like how the first verse drops clues but doesn't flat-out say it, then the chorus is mainly Elvis popular song titles that I tied in together. I happen to think it's clever and catchy, but I'm biased.

Find Me A Woman

By Howard Aronson

About me, and my inability to have a lasting relationship. How I've been unlucky in finding love. I'm 61, and it's getting harder to meet someone. I still look young, but not sure if I will ever meet the one.
