Lovelorn Behemoth

(Marquis Smith )

"Lovelorn Behemoth" is about Ill fated attraction. As I listened to early Anathema I became inspired to come up with this piece. Here we see a man's descent into dangerous territory. Similar in tone with the "Songless Song" except instead of harming the love interest this character contemplate self inflicted harm. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Atmospheric rock, Progressive rock. Haunting progressive chords with depressing singing. Album that inspired this piece: Alternative 4.

A rose with thorns, you're tearing me If I cling to you I'll surely bleed No sympathy for stupidity This tourniquet reminds me of reality I stretch your name across barren land But there's no reply to calm my ever growing cries Now I roam a fate worse than Hades I've welcomed night and buried whatever light I had inside I'll dine with devils just to taste moments in time, And coil my throat about a serpent's wine, How far am I willing to go? Does this keep you from drawing close?

Just Once, My Love

By Marquis Smith

"Just Once, My Love" details a person losing someone very dear to them and then sort of blaming God for their lose. Inspiration taken from My Dying Bride. No rhyme scheme here. Very mournful. MDB's "The Angel and the Dark River" was the album that inspired me the most to pen this. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Doom metal, gothic metal.

The Linkage

By Marquis Smith

"The Linkage" is simply about finding one's self. Burning away the old self and arising from the ashes like a phoenix. Understanding that we are flawed and accepting humanity. Linking together. Becoming one. Sort of a Pantera vibe lyrically. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Groove metal/Rock/Metal

The Outcast

By Marquis Smith

"The Outcast" details a person who knew someone that committed suicide by gunshot to the head. The character feels a mixture of hurt, contempt, and sadness for the person that chose this course of action. This person is disgusted yet recalls the loved one's distant behavior toward the end. Not really a rhyme scheme here. I wrote this awhile back listening bands like Lamb of God. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Groove metal/ Metal.

Tabernacle Debacle

By Marquis Smith

In Tabernacle Debacle we see not a total absence of faith but a lack there of. And a admittance of a higher power though the character may feel alone. This person had high faith just like the character in my piece called The Thorn of Misery. But there's a struggle within. A struggle that becomes even more apparent because there isn't an answer readily available to the character (or so he or she thinks!). The very fact that this being had woke up is proof enough! But this isn't meant to be happy. I was inspired by death doom metal when I wrote this piece. Not so much poetic like some of my other pieces. Just in your face death doom. Think early work from the like of My Dying Bride. No rhyme scheme. I envision harsh gutteral vocals:)

I Call Upon The Angels

By John Clayton

Losing someone suddenly can often be the hardest type of loss to deal with because of it's shock and unexpectedness. Often we search for reasons or an explanation to help us with our grief as a way to deal with, and release these emotions. These lyrics are a way to express these feelings and to help acknowledge and deal with loss and grief.
