(Rupert Webb)

I wrote this while unemployed and sitting in a New Enterprise Allowance workshop. I realised early on that I was never going to be able to build a business case to get the money and instead changed my focus to writing down their unsuitable offer, which of course, needed you to sign your life away. It turned out to be very anti The Man. It’s very glum rock. Maybe an electronic beat? The verses could be arranged in any order, but it perhaps suits two pairs of verses, with the two line dreams/seams bit as a chorus. You decide!

Its called self-employment You get advice from the Government They can help you get going A whole year till you’re owing It’s a matter of pride And we’ll help you decide Is your lifestyle viable If not you’ll be liable We can tell you to dance and sing Then we can claim everything We’ll wait till you default And watch as you free fall You won’t be very well then So we’ll take both your children You’ll see them again someday We’ll make sure they’re ok Share your excitement and tell us your dreams We’ll double your worth, while you split at the seams

Off Limits

By Rupert Webb

I was deliberately ambiguous about why this love is off limits but it’s breaking the singer apart and they are about to risk everything. It could be a friend’s partner, or the boss’ daughter, or the boss, or a subordinate worker who’s off limits. Someone the singer has responsibility for and therefore should behave around.

The singer is a woman who is in an abusive relationship, but is determined that it’s her fault and that no-one should overreact as her man is a good guy deep down.

What I Know Now

By Rupert Webb

Exactly what it says in the title. This is a slightly humorous retrospective of the singer’s life. It picks on several random lessons learned before focussing on relationships and specifically in the last verse, a marriage. Would probably suit a three chord rock song or something more broken down in a Talking Heads/Vampire Weekend style.

Crazy Beautiful

By Nick Duer

Another Angel song. She has long flowing hair, and drives a jeep alot of the time. She commented one day that her hair was crazy. I'm living a long way away, and I don't think it was jeep weather there. However I pictured her in the jeep hair blowing everywhere and shorts. A beautiful picture indeed. So my comment was crazy beautiful. I added that was a good song title. I was headed to a doctors appointment that day. So as I waited I wrote the first draft. Here is my final version.
