High-Achiever

(Stavroula Mitsea)

A look inside the life of a “perfect” overachiever who’s mastered the art of smiling through pressure, even as their dreams fade and the mask gets harder to hold up.

Verse 1: I walked out of the door that keeps my greatest fears out Looked at the world I always heard horror stories about Saw the weirdest, most beautiful things Butterflies that once could fly, on the ground now with broken wings I saw the dreams I had and let them fade ‘Cause the road ahead was already laid What a shame they had to go to waste Can't stray from the rules so I just cut and paste Pre-Chorus: Now there's silence at the table Loud in my mind Trying to overtake it Always gotta stay kind Can never shed the label But I'm falling behind Dressed up the monster in my closet In neat clothes and white lies Chorus: High-achiever, looking wise Deceiving but no one even tries To see through a high-achiever’s lies Hiding in plain sight ‘Til the chains that hold me tight Let me go, I'll never fight Always strive to do what's right High-achiever, my disguise Verse 2: All the grace I fake Now I've gotta keep it up Just an illusion But it's what will save me Walking on that stage Now I've gotta set it up Play the part I hate ‘Cause It's the part they gave me Pre-Chorus: I will smile for the picture I'll be nothing but good Follow every single stricture Just like I should(*harmonize here) Live to make good impressions God forbid I make mistakes I've got these strange obsessions ‘Cause they're XXXXXXX XXX XXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXXX XXX XX XXX XXXX XXXXX XX XXX XXXXXXX X XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXX XX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXX XXXXXX XXXX XXXX XX XXXXX XXX XX XXX XXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XX XX XXXXXX XXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXX XX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXX XXX X XXXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX X XXXXXX XXX XXX XXXXX XXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXXXX X XXXX XXXX XXXX XX XXXXXXX XXXX XX XXXX XXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXXX XXX XX XXX XXXX XXXXX XX XXX XXXXXXX X XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXX XX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXX XXXXXX XXXX XXXX XX XXXXX XXX XX XXX XXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XX XX XXXXXX XXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXX XX XXXXXXXX

No Pressure

By Annabel Chima

This song is quite niche...it's about gate-keeping the Exotical Community - for ALL Exoticals (Dark-Skinned, Brown-Skinned, Light-Skinned) - basically people who are Mixed/Admixed or 'look Mixed'. Further to this, it is about forming a safe space for us - or perhaps a new 'World' for us where we leave behind the outdated systems and form our own communities... I focus on the need to protect the young ones/the kids so that certain cycles don't repeat. I grew up hearing people bombard me with questions like, "What are you Mixed with?" and even had adults not believing my parents are my parents or saying I should "question them" about where I "really" come from (insinuating that my parents were hiding a certain DNA admixture in my bloodline from me)...I do not want my 'future' kids to go through that and I know that many Mixed/Admixed people can relate to this. I want my 'future' Exotical kids to be surrounded by other Exoticals who understand them/their looks/phenotype/ethnic background etc, not a society that constantly pokes at their looks and analyses how 'exotic' they look 24/7. We are often criticised more than others and feel the pressures to perform well or be 'perfect' in society. Additionally, it is not our fault that the world pedestalises us; we should own who we are, what we look like, and our accomplishments; I want us to be free, hence the song title, 'No Pressure'. The lyrics are just an Ode to ALL Exoticals - I want solidarity between us...do with it as you please! Genres: Rap, Hip Hop, RnB, Trap, Drill, Country, Poetry.

High, then low

By Izzy

The Man

By Donald Moore Jr

This song is about becoming a man from a boy and growing to become true champions it is also a song that describes how our love interest feels about us, it is a song about getting stronger and believing that tomorrow is a better day and it also touches on violence by people who do not share the same values and beliefs.
