There is a difference between clinginess and pure narcissism, but to those in love that line is often blurred. Being completely in love with your significant other is a beautiful, but being controlling and egoistic is most certainly not. This song speaks about a relationship filled with control, but lacking the most important parts of a successful relationship: love, respect and equality.

When you discover that your relatiinship has an element of negativity lingering around, you never expected nothing like it in your love life. That element eventually turn you into something you never wanted to be. The lyrics were written for a metal(stoner, doom, groove, nu-metal) song but the lyrics can fit in any other genre.

A song about being middle aged, but more than that it's about being just caught in a place where you're old enough for some things, but too young for others, and life is just still confusing.
