Hey, Comet

(Brian Hendrix)

I got to thinking about seeing Halley's Comet when I was just a kid, and then wondering if I would live long enough to see it come back 'round again. This is just a simple folk song about a comet and how a person wonders about their relationship in the universe relative to the comet's.

Hey, Comet, you're looking like a rocket Can I sit upon your body, above your tail We'll watch the stars born, wave at the forlorn And then leave 'em ice and dust there in our trail Hey, Comet, I see children watching On a planet that I never knew was there They got problems, pray that you solve 'em Every few years when they see you in the air Hey, Comet, go head and clock it Sure that short time around the sun, we won the race Do you get lonely, thinking you're the only Piece of debris that's hurdling through space Hey, Comet, I see there's no stopping Ain't no way that I can steer you from your course Fly toward the black holes, swing 'round and once more We'll be back here in some time, better or worse Hey, Comet, why don't we drop in On some big blue planet covered up in snow Do you think it's too cold, and that's why you won't go If I had one to lend, you could wear my coat Hey, Comet, what we have in common We're both feeling all alone here on the breeze You might be older, yeah, and I'm much slower But I'm guessing like's a matter of degree Yeah, you might be older, and I'm much slower But I'm guessing like's a matter of degree

Sang Like Elvis

By Brian Hendrix

Far and away, one of the best I ever wrote, and I have no idea where I even came up with the idea. A song jumped into my head during the middle of a power outage in a thunderstorm, and I kept wondering "Where have I heard that song before?" Turns out, I hadn't. It was just playing in my head, so I wrote it. A gift from the thunder, maybe. About a guy telling a story of his uncle who used to be a popular Elvis impersonator for a living. I'm in love with this song. I'm hesitant to list it here. I really like how the first verse drops clues but doesn't flat-out say it, then the chorus is mainly Elvis popular song titles that I tied in together. I happen to think it's clever and catchy, but I'm biased.

Leave the Drinkin' to Me

He's Just Like Me

By Brian Hendrix

This would be considered more or less a "power ballad" in the country genre, with the 'He's just like me" part really sang and emphasized. Basically a story about men who have regrets after losing their women and how they should have done better and more to keep them.

Find Me A Woman

About me, and my inability to have a lasting relationship. How I've been unlucky in finding love. I'm 61, and it's getting harder to meet someone. I still look young, but not sure if I will ever meet the one.
