Little Things 'Bout Life
I think this comes from a place that most of us can relate to. Our parents try to instill this wisdom in us when we're young, typically in small doses and in cliched things that just get pushed around. We ignored it when young, often not even wanting to hear it. Yet when we're grown, and especially when we have kids of our own, we end up pushing the same little pearls of wisdom out there.

My favorite piece of wisdom
Way back when, daddy told me
"If psychics could predict a thing
Then they'd win the lottery"
He also spoke, those sticks and stones
Respect elders, say "Yes, ma'am"
Never count your chickens, son
And don't tell God your plans
(Chorus)
All those little things 'bout life
Like that silly old advice
That you never listened to, but now you see
What seemed like meaningless words
Helped us all from gettin' hurt
And become the same old things we always teach
We can't wait to say it, man; and, well, I tell it twice
Hoping my kids learn those little things 'bout life
I say "Life is what you make it"
And "Be glad to give but not receive"
Then I see those eyes a-rollin'
Like I'm old and plain crazy
"Keep your room neat" and "Elbow grease"
Seem to fall on their deaf ears
Though when they've finally grown up
Bet they remember they used to hear
(Chorus)
