No Love Songs Left in Texas

(Brian Hendrix)

A song about a guy who lives in Texas but can't travel anywhere without remembering just how broken his life is without his woman. Everything he loved about the state has now changed. This is a very region-specific song that most won't get unless they're familiar with Texas.

Ain't no soft words waitin' for me in Abilene Fort Worth don't gently whisper in my ear Midland meddles crazy with my memory Laredo's too damn cold this time of year Nothing picturesque about the Crystal City Odessa's pawn shops did not want my ring Still can't see the bay on the shore of Beaumont And Wharton threw me out when I tried to sing (Chorus) There ain't no love songs left in all of Texas Just broken frames, reflections of a hurt Where lovers played across the state forgotten And imprints of where green grass turned to dirt Soft kisses all but faded 'way from Big Lake The trip down to Del Rio takes two steps No scenery to see now through Ozona Heard the angels of Sonora up and left (Chorus) Eldorado gave back all its shells and history Sweetwater, it runs sour without the notes Guthrie's sign said no forlorn souls welcome And I got the words to get to Post (Chorus)

It'd Be a Lie

By Brian Hendrix

A musician falls in love with a girl, and his dream is to travel around and play his music. The girl in this story needs to stay put for her life. Her wants her to go, she wants him to stay. So they end up parting ways. It ends up being something the guy just can't get over in the end. A more poetic take I tried on a classic love song, instead of the same cookie-cutter words and themes.

Down by the Riverside

By Brian Hendrix

This is very much in the vein of an old-school folk song. It's basically just about someone's life down by the river. It's where they feel most at home and where they've lived most of their life. In southern states here in America, the riverside is its own subculture.

I Already Know You

By Brian Hendrix

A lot is said about love at first sight, and fools rushing in, etc. Though millions upon millions of people do hit it off right away, and they don't need to date a lot to fall in love. This is a song about a guy who falls in love with a girl on the first date and wants to be with her. Of course, change some pronouns around and it can work for anyone.

Cardinal's Inn

By Brian Hendrix

The "Cardinal's Inn" is a play on words: Cardinal sin. This is a song about spouses who show up so often to the same seedy motel that it's taken on a different name. It could work in any genre. It's a little on the upbeat side, the way I wrote it.

She never plays fair

By Howard Aronson

This lyric could be about a relationship, or just a friendship where the person doesn't care that you're caught in a web so to speak. Time and time again they let you down, but you keep going back for more. They find it amusing that you do, and they turn up the heat and do it even more. Basically they don't care at all, and think it's funny that you try so hard and they have total control over you. This happens all too often in relationship and friendships. That's because people are so consumed with themselves, it's so selfish that they take whatever they can get from a friendship or a relationship and just keep on going without reciprocating.

Rhythms We Breathe

By Jones Lyrics

Topic(s): It works in a team/relationship, even if sometimes it looks like giving up on our own selves. Permanent self doubts ending in harmonic optimism. Atmosphere: fast, happy, euphoric, to pogo or dance on, breaking through, pushing forward, eventually scream, loud, wild Genre/Style I was thinking of: Indi-Pop, Singer/Songwriter, Indi-Electronic, Alternative, Alternative Rock Artist(s) I was thinking of: Friska Viljor, Phil Might Leave, Mando Diao, Kings of Leon, Ezra Furman, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Milky Chance... Comments: Typical pop structure. Pre-Chorus & Outro. Outro can come fluently after the chorus & can be repeated multiple times, so that phrases will sound the opposite way around: It works out if we believe, in same rhythms, that we breathe..... So, it can end on "breathe".
