Ol' No. 7 (Whiskey From Tennessee)
This is my baby. I post this reluctantly. Though nonetheless I'll post it. Long story short: I ran into an old buddy whose wife had left him years ago. He's still around, but a shell of himself and drunk. I woke up at 4a.m. one morning and jotted this down in notepad; it still gives me chills when I read it or sing it. It's a true country song. Though in the same vein as someone like Townes, take note of the verse-chorus hybrid structure, wherein the chorus starts via picking up tempo and vocalization after the second bar in each verse. It's about Jack Daniels, FYI.

V1
Men whose wives have left 'em
People whose jobs are gone
Folks that like to party
And everybody who's been cheated on
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
That's who throws 'em back and toasts the glass
And foolheartedly do believe
That things will surely get better
If they have just one more drink
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
V2
People who've had a hard day
Folks who have it rough
The men down at the tavern
And everyone when the going's tough
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
That's who's takin' shots to loose the knots
They're no different from you and me
They just like the wave that carries
Their worries away, it seems
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
(Bridge)
There's a lot that you can choose from
All with a familiar burn
If you need to forget a memory
Or maybe it's just your turn
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
V3
Folks who can't get over
The people who can't get by
They struggle in strife to make it
Sometimes wanna just feel high
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
When your lover's gone, need to feel real strong
At least as strong as you can be
Maybe you need to feel the music
Maybe you need the courage to sing
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
(Bridge)
There might be hope there in a bottle
Or you hope and pray it's so
If you're a little bit like me
And just can't let her go
That's who drinks all the whiskey from Tennessee
Yeah, we're who drink all the whiskey from Tennessee
.......................
(Writer's note:)
In the last line of the song, there's a pause built in between "we're who drink" and "all the whiskey..." which was left intentionally as a way to include a line from other famous songs about whiskey.
Think Jack Daniel's if You'd Please, or perhaps Tennessee Whiskey.
The point is to have a phrase tucked in there.
However, this is certainly not an obligation; it's merely the way I sing it when I play it. For instance, I'll sing "Yeah, we're who drink--"Don't rock the jukebox, I wanna hear George Jones"-all the whiskey from Tennessee"
