When I'm Drinking
This is a song I wrote after meeting Kaya Jones, formerly of the Pussycat Dolls, when she told me she wanted to break into the country music genre. After writing and sending this to her, she instead decided to opt to stick with her pop career, though she did claim she liked the song. It's written from the perspective of a woman who realizes that the only time she regrets breaking up with her lover is when she's drinking and lonely. When she's sober, she's fine - a problem a lot of us have.

Another drink, and then I think
'Bout the way you held me close on those cold nights
Another round, it goes right down
Then I realize living backwards ain't my life
'Cause all the times you hurt me
They're all still plain as day
But every time I drink
That pain just goes away
(Chorus)
'Cause I only love you when I'm drinkin'
So being sober's got me thinkin'
That I can do without that whiskey in my mouth
And put that bottle down
Since I only love you when I'm drinkin'
I see that signal light a-blinkin'
Says it's time to turn away, forever starts today
No more sorrows left to drown
I only love you when I'm drinking
The morning dawns, I stretch and yawn
And get all snuggled up and lie here safe in bed
Without the booze, I think of you
And realize loving you is fading from my head
'Cause I don't need you, babe
I prove this every day
If I don't stop to drink
Your memory fades away
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
The more I drink, the more I think I still love you
And my first step is to realize that's not true
(Chorus)
