Sarah
For Nell and Ludlow “Lud” Thorston. Loud was a prominent water colorist who passed a few years ago at 92. He loved to listen to “The Divine One”, Ms. Sarah “Sassy” Vaughn while he painted. One day, in 1990, upon completing a beautiful water color of a sand dune, he heard that Ms. Vaughn had passed away. With tear filled eyes he came down the steps from his studio and told his darling wife Nell. He named his painting SARAH.

Like a breeze
You floated through the room
Soft and Sassy
Sunday afternoons
You’d sing your song
My hands would play along
Sarah, you belonged to me
And when I’d hear
Your sultry voice
All the colors
Of my world rejoiced
Painting sunset seas
To broken hearted melodies
Sarah, you belonged to me
Framing windswept dunes
Beneath a rising moon
You lingered in my soul
With every heartfelt word
My brush sailed like a bird
Across a canvas shoal
Subtle, rich and bold
All the highs and lows
Heaven knows, you made me blue
Your shadow brought me light
My strokes were broad and bright
My palette sang with you
Like a breeze
You floated through the room
Soft and Sassy
Sunny afternoons
You’d sing your song
My hands would play along
The whole day through
You’d sing your song
My hands would play along
Sarah, I’ll always remember you
