The Linkage

(Marquis Smith )

"The Linkage" is simply about finding one's self. Burning away the old self and arising from the ashes like a phoenix. Understanding that we are flawed and accepting humanity. Linking together. Becoming one. Sort of a Pantera vibe lyrically. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Groove metal/Rock/Metal

Set myself ablaze searching through ashes Discover to find then leave debris behind To know others I first must know myself Kill illusions, kill confusion This world seem so dog eat dog Eyes strain to see through deceitful fog No more will I be deceived For winter comes before spring Come... link with me In chains to be free Forever to see clearly never temporary Flame of the eyes to burn what others disguise I know myself therefore I know you Kill illusions, kill confusion One apple can spoil the bunch I mustn't neglect you Two wrongs doesn't make it right For day comes after the night Come... link with me In chains to be free Come link with me We'll break free There's so much chaos It's overwhelming Will you link with me? Then and only then can we be... Deconstruct our senses to reveal our selves We will see motive behind every breath We can restart if we have the heart Reconstruct to understand

The Outcast

By Marquis Smith

"The Outcast" details a person who knew someone that committed suicide by gunshot to the head. The character feels a mixture of hurt, contempt, and sadness for the person that chose this course of action. This person is disgusted yet recalls the loved one's distant behavior toward the end. Not really a rhyme scheme here. I wrote this awhile back listening bands like Lamb of God. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Groove metal/ Metal.

Tabernacle Debacle

By Marquis Smith

In Tabernacle Debacle we see not a total absence of faith but a lack there of. And a admittance of a higher power though the character may feel alone. This person had high faith just like the character in my piece called The Thorn of Misery. But there's a struggle within. A struggle that becomes even more apparent because there isn't an answer readily available to the character (or so he or she thinks!). The very fact that this being had woke up is proof enough! But this isn't meant to be happy. I was inspired by death doom metal when I wrote this piece. Not so much poetic like some of my other pieces. Just in your face death doom. Think early work from the like of My Dying Bride. No rhyme scheme. I envision harsh gutteral vocals:)

D.F.H.S. MMXVIII is a second installment. Still drawing heavy influence on Doom/death. Imagine this being spoken intro to an album with eeire background with clean vocals.

Dead Flowers Held Sacred

By Marquis Smith

D.F.H.S. details romance and same-sex love (also the title to my compilation of writings). I can imagine this being spoken. Dispensed of heavy metallic sound to evoke the presence of dark romanticism. Maybe some soft piano. I feel this would make a good album opener. Heavily inspired by early My Dying Bride. No rhyme scheme. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Death/doom metal/gothic metal.

A.Mountain of Grey is a very dark, depressing song about serious depression and thoughts of suicide. About feeling so overwhelmed and buried under a mountain of sadness and guilt. A very powerful, emotional song.
