From the word mum
taught to hate
breaking the trend
never crossed my mind
wanting to answer YES
when questioned at the gate
if I burned at the altar
the men I was taught to hate.
Listen, Question, don’t Ignore
the fake, the false
the untrue, the sham
the lies, the sleight
the phony, the wrong
the believing heart
humming it like a song.
Looking for support
to raise my prejudice
all I care about is
to me,
my own dispensed justice
survival, purity
the beats I march to
for a war to protect my kind,
my way of life,
my privilege,
and to it my right
goaded by one
claiming his might’s
guided by the one above
to ensure sanctity
of pristine supremacy
I had no capacity
or the free-willed curiosity
to question the inhumanity
perpetrated by this ethnicity
this calculated monstrosity
believing what I am told
walking, working, living like ants
survival is all that counts
love and truth
just don’t stand a chance.
Standing in a crowd
the noise is too loud
for you to make a choice
based on your inner voice
the music always sounds good
and the RJ wants you to the dance to his tunes,
to sacrifice,
against your conscience’s call
based on tenets in a book
that an imaginative amateur
without logic and reason could cook
at alternatives,
you’re never allowed to look,
frankly,
that’s when your freedom they really took.
Listen, don’t ignore
think twice you devotee
before your follow the decree
matters not who it’s from
whatever the kind
just many faces of the enemy,
the enemies of the evolving mind.
Listen to your inner voice
it speaks true, it speaks right
when stranded morally or in doubt
listen to that inner voice
for when the heart speaks
there ain’t no better choice.
