(1st Verse) When I once Tought, many years ago I recall a tale, so I'll tell you so Training with me, was this younger man Who's name was Mr Houlahan An unfortunate name, it would seem As the kids were quickly to reveal As they never called him by his proper name Though they all knew it, just the same A lesser man would have gone insane But it was really all just a bonding game (1st Chorous) Some called him Mr Hoola-hoop! And some Mr Hooligan And it continued, as it began They called him anything but Houlahan (2nd Verse) But he never let him phase him much He laughed right-off that labelled crutch And focused instead on teaching well A class known capable of raising hell! Staying back late to help them on Despite the endless egging-on! They played his name, like it was a ball I know Johnny, alone, drove him up the wall! (2nd Chorous) And they called him Mr Hoola-hoop And some Mr Hooligan And it continued, as it began They called him anything, but Houlahan (3rd Verse) Then one day his last lesson came And they greeted him just the same "Hello Mr Hoola-hoop!", and "Mr Hooligan!" And the lesson continued, as it began But at the end, instead of rushing and leaving They all stayed back, and to his disbelieving! They handed him a signed card And "Best Teacher in the World!" award And written on it was just this "Thanks for never giving up on us!" And as he struggled not to cry Even Johnny turned up to say goodbye! (3rd Chorous) And they called him Mr Hoola-hoop And some Mr Hooligan And it continued, as it began They called him anything but Houlahan (Last Verse) Now they never once called him by his proper name Though they all knew it, just the same A lesser man would have gone insane But it was all just a bonding game And it continued, as it began Except that last day As he drove away They all shouted "Thank You Mr Houlahan!"
