Saved By Summer

(Annabel Chima)

This lyric is inspired by 'Emo Girl' - MGK, Willow Smith, Blink-182's 'What's My Age Again?', and just the nostalgia of old skl teenage rock songs e.g. 'Teenage Dirtbag' - Wheatus, 'Crashed The Wedding' - Busted, 'Last Resort' - Papa Roach, and a lot of McFly songs. As much as I loved the RnB / Hip Hop genres, these 'Rocky' styles of mysic made up a lot of my childhood and I am saddened that many artists of the 2020s generation, do not make these styles of rock songs anymore. 'Saved By Summer' is for the emo kids; the ones who felt misunderstood growing up, but also those who took more of a rebellious turn later in life...I wrote this song for you! It is about a melancholy experience of life, with 'Summer' being both a literal season and a personification of a love interest 'saving' the protagonist/artist from the gloom of their personal life/school life. On a positive note, Summer signifies the emergence of Holiday, Romance, ice cream, and fun. A sweet escape or escapade! Contrastingly, on a more darker note, in this song, 'Summer' could also symbolise death/suicide (with themes of "the ocean" and references to not being able to "float"), 'freeing' the protagonist/artist from the stresses/stressers of life. Ultimately, the song ends reassuring the protagonist/viewer/listener that they do not have to live in gloom, as "Summer's always in sight..."  Freedom and hope are the end goals! It's emo, it's foreboding, but it's also cathartic. (It is written from the male perspective but feel free to change/amend the genders to your liking/preference e.g. "He"/"She" etc, but you must keep the overall song in first person). Genres: Rock / Rap / Indie.

[Verse 1] I like warm swims in the Maldives I like wet surfing in Bali I like when ice cream is melting I like when the year ends and it's onto Spring! Please don't! I don't wanna hear another thought No more algebra and cold custard - shitty uniform I'm onto better things thanks to Summer The time I spend with her will never be forgotten [Pre-Chorus] She said: "Hey lil' boy don't you cry This year's gonna be a bumpy ride Miss Lana doesn't understand The cool kids always end up dead." I said: "Detention just isn't part of my style I play loud music and like to hide my smile Motorcycle my way back home Curfew on the clock; emo truck - better hide." [Chorus] Oh, there might be a murderer inside But at least my Summer's in sight! Ohhh, Summer's in sight (x3) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Summer's in sight! [Verse 2] I'm like, "Hey baby, your whistle sounds so sweet!" Birds chirping and the breeze touching our feet Popping beers by the beach, yeah that's my bitch Let's get married; although we're young, let's get hitched Say, say, say you love me, why don't you? Bumping rides, 'kini lines, getting naked by the ocean Getting high, whilst we die, baby we're forever young Time passing by, forgetting I'm not in a love song [Pre-Chorus] She said: "Hey lil' boy don't you cry This year's gonna be a bumpy ride Miss Lana doesn't understand The cool kids always end up dead." I said: "Detention just isn't part of my style I play loud music and like to hide my smile Motorcycle my way back home Curfew on the clock; emo truck - better hide." [Chorus] Oh, there might be a murderer inside But at least my Summer's in sight! Ohhh, Summer's in sight (x3) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Summer's in sight! [Verse 3] That's right, Sum-Sum-Summer will save me Popping pills in my room whilst my parents sleep I'm a wreck, nobody in class understands That the cool kids always end up dead! Will Summer's sun revive me? Curls (Girly Girl)

By Annabel Chima

This lyric specifically uplifts 'Exotical' women - women who are Mixed-race (with Black/African/Caribbean), women who have lived the 'Mixed-race Experience', or those who are constantly sought after/fetishized for 'looking Mixed'. As a DSE (Dark(er)-Skinned Exotical) myself, this Song Lyric is important to me because my phenotype and aesthetic have always been the centre of discussion/attention/speculation, especially in a sexual way. I want other Exoticals, whether Light-Skinned, Brown-Skinned, or Dark-Skinned, to feel understood and uplifted in a validating and empowering way. This Lyric focuses on 'curly hair' (type 2 waves, but more specifically type 3 curly hair) which is often a phenotype that gets fetishized by men and women of other races/phenotypes. This fetish is also seen through people trying to look like us e.g. wearing our natural curls as wigs and/or wand curling their own hair to mimic ours etc. The celebrity women I mention in this song are ICONS to me and are a great representation of 'Exotical' Beauty. I am solely giving them homage. This Song Lyric was also mildly inspired by the Exotical Movement (EGTOW) and it could be seen as 'political' but it is absolutely NOT political - it is solely to uplift Exoticals (with said phenotype). A little bit cheeky, but fun. Suitable for the following Genres: Hip-hop, RnB, Rock, Rap.

Escape (my reality)

By Annabel Chima

Sometimes one needs to take a break/vacation from life and just simply "escape" to find inner peace. I was inspired by my current situation: I have deleted my Instagram, Twitter and majority of my social media accounts. The lyrics romanticise, fantasise and personify the loneliness of fame. It also speaks of losing (fake) friends in the process of becoming more famous. The vibes/atmosphere of the song are very contemplative and weird. It also has a nostalgic element to it also. Genres: RnB, Pop, Indie/Rock, Hip Hop. The lyrics are best fitted in the aforementioned music genres.

IG Accounts

By Annabel Chima

So this lyric was inspired by real events: I was on Instagram, minding my own business - as you do, when a 'bot' (fake account) pops up to me asking to be my "good friend." He had a bogus-looking profile picture (it looked superimposed), '0' following, and '0' followers, and I just remember thinking that he must be a creep; so I decided to play him at his own game. After several chats, I sent my Cashapp and asked for money, to see if he was really who he said he was; if he pulled through, we could continue talking. (That's how you test these bots so that they won't try it again). He replied, "No thank you miss" and proceeded to 'unsend' all his sent messages...creep. These lyrics are very personal to me. It discusses the situations like I have mentioned above - the plights of Instagram - in a very satirical way. These lyrics are mockingly funny, and should not be taken too seriously. The vibes and atmosphere of the song are very freeing and playful. GENRES: Rnb, Mumble Rap, Drill, Rock, Pop. These lyrics fit perfectly into the aforementioned genres.
