A Lot Like Me

(Brian Hendrix)

One of those choruses I've had written for a while. Digging through old song files, looking for inspiration, figured I'd finish it. So I wrote three verses and a bridge for it, kept the chorus as-is and built around it. Basically about two firebrand lovers who are compatible in the best--and worst--ways. I like it. I think it's clever in places, catchy in others, and strong melodically.

V1 They say opposites attract But I don't know too much 'bout that Me and my girl, sometimes just can't tell us apart If there's one thing I know's a fact She'll stand right with me back to back And we'll finish together anything that starts (Chorus) My baby is a rolling stone As dangerous as a loaded gun But she's alright to hold at night As long as you keep the safety on My girl's a little wild and free Though tame enough just where it counts She'll come in cool as the breeze And sometimes storm on her way out My baby is a lot like me... V2 She'll drink with me shot for shot She'll throw her hands if she gets hot Leave the brush at home, light the town in fiery red Then walk barefoot, embers and ash Ignores the whole world, lets it pass 'Cause this world is ours, out there and in our heads (Chorus) (Bridge) Sometimes get wrapped up in each other Butt heads and stoke those coals But it just forges stronger steel And heats us up when life gets cold My baby... V3 Starts a fight about the fight That we just fought last night And I'll give it back, and we'll go 'round and 'round Maybe I'll laugh, maybe she'll smile And we'll cool down after a while And then heat it up and go lay our love down (Chorus)

Love on Kate

By Brian Hendrix

A song for Kate. Though it doesn't have to be specific to the Kates of the world. Many men have the problem of being inside their head too much, not realizing that they need to put more effort into loving their women. Men like us sometimes need to remind ourselves that our women need some TLC.

Bittersweet Maria

By Brian Hendrix

No big story behind this one. I'm not even sure I know any Marias. Yet from Townes Van Zandt and David Allan Coe to rock and roll bands like Counting Crows, everyone has their obligatory "Maria" song, so now I do too.

All Right with Me

By Brian Hendrix

Was washing dishes today (2/23) and there was just a melody in my head. It kept saying "All right... all night," like it was a song I've heard before. Well, it wasn't, so I wrote it while it was still fresh. It's basically about a guy who's telling a girl he can love her better than she's being loved. It's very catchy. I think reading it really conveys the rhythm too, which is rare.

Things You Find

By Brian Hendrix

Something that most of us don't realize 'til we're older is that those dreams we had when we were young were granted, just not in the way we thought. Many of us end up happy and content, though not with the things we assumed would have made us so in our youth. This song is just about that.

In Your Light

This song is inspired by how the girl of your life is your guiding light. When you doubt in yourself, she's always there to reassure you. Her love is the best thing that ever happened to you.

I was deeply shocked to see screeming children after a bomb attack in Syria. In these moments I can't believe in justice of any god nor reason in humanity.

The Directors Couch

By Edward McBride

These lyrics were inspired by the brave Hollywood actresses who finally had enough and stood up to a Movie Director and his abuse of power over them.
