Wasted Time

(Brian Hendrix)

This is a catchy little folk song that was inspired by watching my young niece play in the back yard on a bright, hot day this summer. I just kept trying to remember if I actually did remember a time when time didn't feel wasted. I envied her for not knowing about wasted time.

V1 I wonder what she thinks about Picking orchids pink and gold Watching petals float around Swirling with the wind that blows (Pre-Chorus) They're like dreams to me Bright in the beginning But fade as they glide away Disappear without an ending They're just gone (Chorus) Her eyes are much better than mine And she don't know 'bout wasted time V2 I wonder sometimes if she knows How the flowers need the sun They only come back 'round in spring I'm thinking she might be too young (Pre-Chorus) She's like a dream to me Maybe way back in my youth I lived life so free and light Before I thought about the truth Inside a lie (Chorus) Her mind is much clearer than mine And she don't know 'bout wasted time V3 I wonder how her clear skin Seems to bounce off of the sun And looking at this leather All the years have been soaked up (Pre-Chorus) It's like a dream to me The wastefulness of youth The hands there that won't turn back And the old ones that I use Much weaker now (Chorus) Her future's much brighter than mine And she know know 'bout wasted time

War Paint Wanda

By Brian Hendrix

I sometimes like writing anthem-style songs. This really fits that bill. "War Paint Wanda" is about a tough-as-nails woman from a long time ago who was a legendary warrior and also very mean and tough. This is a fun song to play and sing, and it always gets a cool reaction with people asking if Wanda is based on a real person in history.

One Try

By Brian Hendrix

Just a fun, quick song that illustrates how we all fail in life the first time we try something. It's fine to do that! As the song reminds us, nobody gets it right in one try. I think I bottled things up well enough, though the concept can always be expanded on. Also the chorus is sort of written out phonetically, so you can get an idea of how the song flows.

Music For The Dance

By Brian Hendrix

A classic-style love song that I wrote some time ago. Just now getting around to posting it. It has a lot of personal meaning for me, and maybe this sort of sentiment has personal meaning for a lot of people. It's good from a guy's or girl's perspective. No specific pronouns.

Country Never Left

By Brian Hendrix

Just a different way to say "You can take the girl out the country, but can't take the country out the girl." This is a very upbeat, rockin' song with a lot of tempo and a powerful chorus. I really like how this turned out, especially the bridge into the chorus. My favorite part of the song. This is also a story a lot of people can relate to who ended up in the city. The chorus pauses for a measure after the ellipses, and it sounds really good that way.
