Relationships between friends, family, and lovers aren't always based on love. Sometimes they are based on the strongest emotion that the two people feel when they're together, and despite how out of place that feeling may seem, it is often the only thing that keeps their relationship stable and intact-- even convincing them to stay in a stalemate forever due to how strong that emotion is in comparison to the one in all their other relationships.
This lyric is about how fear from a particular event or series of events in your life can grab hold of the latter and twist it around, leaving you a shell of who you used to be. When your life is controlled by fear of being hurt, being ridiculed, and/or being left all alone, the easiest thing to do is give up when faced with a choice that could potentially lead you to the above situations. It takes a lot of courage to realize that you are scared, and a lot more to get up and expel your fear, and therefore give you yourself the chance to live your life to the fullest.
Having to hide your true self because other people, who you thought had your trust, won't like it is something a lot of us have gone through. I wrote this song to bring a little optimism to the situation by describing the journey of a girl that used to be afraid of being judged for who she is and what she does into becoming an independent, confident individual with much needed self-love that's been missing all those years she hid herself.
Inspired from "Cancer" by My Chemical Romance with its literal lyrics. I hope this song will give people who've gone through a similar experience with their loved ones and their feelings at the time justice.
Imagine writing a letter to your past self; what would you write? Would you tell yourself about your future? Or give some advice as to how to make your life better? And most of all, did you reach the dreams that you had tens years ago, or found a new one to follow as you grew up and found-- or still searching for-- your place in life? The contents of that letter are entirely up to you, and this song is the reflection behind one of the many letters those who're willing to take up the task would send to themselves if such a time-bending feat is possible.
