For Julian. He loved the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, NC.
Inspired by Hank Willis Thomas’s bronze sculpture, “The Embrace”, which was installed on Boston Commons in Boston, Massachusetts, US last year. It depicts the four arms intertwined, symbolizing the hug that Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, shared after he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. I tried to imagine the emotions that Dr. King might have been feeling.
I had a conversation a few days ago with a homeless person. His name was Tom. He was walking down the road, heading south. I asked him if he ever got lonely for someone to talk to. He said, “I’ve got the moon”. This one’s for Tom.
I continue to be amazed and inspired by the courage and perseverance of the Ukrainian people. Fighting and dying, Street by street, yard by yard, on their homeland for the right to self-determination and the very freedom we take for granted. I shouldn’t be surprised. I married one! For my wife, Adela, and the gallant people of Ukraine and the late Richard D. Hanusey, EdD.
