Making it
This song describes the hopes and dreams of a poor cotton picker in the Southern United States. He picks cotton by day and picks on his guitar at night. He stays humble as he starts to get noticed and gets signed up by an agent. The rise is rapid as he soon opens for some big stars in Nashville. Through it all he remains humble.

I work in the cotton fields
Just picking all day long
I sing all the country songs
Strum the guitar at night
Nashville seems so far away
I will get there someday
I just need a break
Not a head fake
Chorus
Do not forget your poor, poor roots
You never had any boots
Sometimes not eating
Just getting a beating
Be humble, be humble
Then you will not stumble
He heard me at the country fair
His name was David Blair
He walked with me, he talked with me
He signed me on the spot
I meet my idols
They want to help
I only saw him from afar
And now I open for the big star
Chorus
Do not forget your poor, poor roots
You never had any boots
Sometimes not eating
Just getting a beating
Be humble, be humble
Then you will not stumble
