You can be happy

(Howard Aronson)

This is a rock Ballard, about when I was using drugs. It was a dark time in my life, and I never thought I could be happy again. But they were a lot of great people in my life that convinced me otherwise. I know I didn't have many more chances, and I should probably take advantage of the one I had right in front of me. I knew I knew I had the ability to get myself sober, because I had done it before. Only this time I knew it may be the last time I had a chance to do it.

You throw away your life For one more hit I don't understand Do you care one bit You have so much to live for And you're so talented So what is it That makes you so demented If you close the door Another one will open You can get yourself right That's all I'm hopiin If you close the door And throw away the key Start a new life I know you'll be happy It wasn't long ago That you had a smile on your face If you don't act now It'll be gone forever without a trace If you don't believe Anything I've said One of these days You'll end up dead If you close the door Another one will open You can get yourself right That's all I'm hopiin If you close the door And throw away the key Start a new life I know you'll be happy You can be happy You can be happy You can be happy If you want to Please don't die trying And leave me crying

Rat race

By Howard Aronson

This lyric is about the craziness of living in the world today. No one has time for anybody anymore, everybody's just moving at such a fast Pace. Simple pleasures are no longer simple, everything is a fight, it's just an arduous task to get through a day. All the distractions, the traffic on the roads, and the angry people behind the wheel. There's so much distraction, so much temptation, and so much aggravation. It's really hard to take, and it won't be long before the world just blows up totally. There's so many wars and so much hate I'm not sure how much longer this can last.

Mountains

By Howard Aronson

This lyric is about the mountains. I'm an avid hiker, and a professional mountain guide. Nowhere have I ever found the peace of mind that I do when I go up to the mountains. It's been such a spiritual and ultimate physical experience for me. To become one with nature, just to become one with the Earth. Someday I'm going to live up in the mountains, and get away from all the hustle and bustle. There's just too much bad news, bad politics, and aggravation living in populated areas. The mountains are my home for feeling safe, the mountains are a place where I feel needed, the mountains are placed that gives back, and I can give back to nature as well.

This lyric is about a relationship that went wrong. At first the person says to the other person please don't ever leave me and they're reassured that they never will. They both believe they'll always be together. But then one day she decides to leave and he's left alone. He can't believe it, and it's beside himself. He loves her so much, and we'll do anything to get her back. All he wants is another shot.

It's all about me

By Howard Aronson

This lyric is about the way I used to be when I was younger and when I was using drugs and alcohol. I was so self-centered, narcissistic, it had really no sense of what other people were thinking or feeling. And quite frankly I didn't care. It was a very lonely existence. Today, I've gotten help and understand that it's not all about me. But this lyric is basically focused on the self-centeredness that I showed before I got sober.

Making it

By Edward McBride

This song describes the hopes and dreams of a poor cotton picker in the Southern United States. He picks cotton by day and picks on his guitar at night. He stays humble as he starts to get noticed and gets signed up by an agent. The rise is rapid as he soon opens for some big stars in Nashville. Through it all he remains humble.

The act of attention seeking is fervently looked down upon. But in these rap lyrics, the protagonist spins the term "attention seeker" in a positive way, owning and embracing the phrase to portray their confidence and irresistibility.
