I Still Need You Tonight

(Brian Hendrix)

A duet I wrote. Might be hard to grasp via text, reading both parts, but I really like it. Of all the hundreds of songs I've written over the years, only a handful have given me chills when singing them aloud. This is one of them. It's one of those songs where after I wrote it, I had to go check online to make sure I didn't just plagiarize a hit song stuck in my head. Nope. It's all mine. Enjoy. Also note: "Him:" and "Her:" and "Both:" aren't part of the lyrics; they're just stamps to let you know which gender is singing which part.

Him: I still love her Her: I still love him Him: I think I need her Her: Think I might need him Both: It was you that made me feel so full of life Him: Now she don't love me Her: Now he don't love me Him: Lord, she don't need me Her: And he don't need me Both: If we were doin' wrong, damn it just felt so right As I wonder where time goes I wonder if it shows I wonder if she still needs me tonight (her part would say "He”, overlapping) Him V1: Baby, I'm finally over you Just like I'm over breathing air Your face shines through the moon Like the sky, you're always there If I could take back all the days I would stop the whole world’s spin And spend forever in your arms And you'd be loving me again (Chorus 1) Him: 'Cause I still love her Her: Oh, I do love him Him: And I still need her Her: I know I need him Both: It was you that made me feel so full of life Him: Now she don't love me Her: Now he don't love me Him: Don't think she needs me Her: And he don't need me Both: If we were doin' wrong, damn it just felt so right As I wonder where time goes I wonder if it shows I wonder if she still needs me tonight (her part would say "He", overlapping) Her V2: Babe, I've long moved on past you Just like the beach moves past the sea On sleepless nights I reach for you And realize that it's just me Maybe I got in my own way Maybe I've learned to step aside I wish to feel your touch again And be the woman in your life (Chorus 2) Her: God, I still love him Him: And I still love her Her: And I still need him Him: Yes, I do need her Both: It was you that made me feel so full of life Her: Now he don't love me Him: Now she don't love me Her: No longer needs me Him: And she don't need me Both: If we were doin' wrong, damn it just felt so right As I wonder where time goes I wonder if it shows I wonder if she still needs me tonight (her part would say "He") (Bridge) (Both:) If true love could heal a wound We would've never hurt at all But what shattered me like glass Was getting up after the fall (Chorus 3) Him: I swear, I still love you Her: Hey, boy, I love you Him: And I still need you Her: Baby, I need you Both: It was you that made me feel so full of life Him: I hope she still loves me Her: I need him to love me Him: Girl, do you need me Her: Tell me you need me Both: If we were doin' wrong, damn it just felt so right As I wonder where time goes I wonder if it shows I want you to know I still need you tonight As I wonder where time goes I wander time without a soul I want you to know I still need you tonight

World in Trouble

By Brian Hendrix

I was checking Netflix for those original Superman movies, Christopher Reeve, and only found Supergirl. I'm a country music writer. Even still, I challenged myself to write a song that could be used as a theme for a superhero show, movie, series, etc. Five minutes later, this is what I had come up with. I think it's a great song. It's really about a girl who thinks she needs to be the best at everything to be loved, but the truth is that life is indifferent to you. Even if you're a hero, they only care about the hero, not about you, and they'll forget your name when you're gone. But it's laced with superhero references so hopefully I can one day hear it on a Netflix show. Enjoy.

Snowfall in Alabama

By Brian Hendrix

This song is about a woman who just started a happy life with her husband, when he was sent off to war and never came home. She's shattered and turn, but she learns to appreciate the beauty in the small things in life. No one ever heals from that sort of tragedy, but she learns to cope and figures out ways to still let the happiness in.

Without You

By Brian Hendrix

I knew a girl once, went to school with her, same neighborhood, and she was typically miserable. 'Til she broke up with her man, then she became the strongest person around. I really think this song encapsulates the growth that a "nothing to lose" attitude can have on you, though it's also deeper than that - it touches on the dissonance of love and loss. We all know that feeling where you feel stronger on your own, but still like part of you is with that other person. You still cling onto the way that person made you feel at the best of times, and you live with that. Indefinitely. This one here, which I wrote just before winter '19, is in my top-10 list of personal favorites. Reading it bereft the melody, might take a few tries to figure out how the syllable emphasis works out in the chorus, but it works perfect once you find it.

Save Tonight

I'm near 40, wrote this one in my early 20s, and it was my first contest placement. A buddy of mine named Leroy was a songwriter, and one day I brought him my stuff. He said he liked it, but my verses were too long, like pages - like Bob Dylan thought "Maybe these songs aren't long enough." And he said I should hone things down, so this is the first song I ever wrote in the typical accepted format. It's just about a busy couple who don't have time to spend together, so they decide to make the time.

Der erste plattdeutsche Songtext hier muss natürlich ein Seemannslied, ein Shanty, sein. Der Text schildert das Leben an Bord eines Segelschiffes.

This song is about a marriage in which the wife is abusive. The husband had finally had enough and packed up the kids and got out of the toxic situation. Then the wife begs for them back. What happens next?... you’ll have to find that out yourself.

Welt in Flammen

By Nadine Schulze
