Blade of Grass
This is definitely in the vein of a folk song. There's no chorus per se, just a guitar break between verses. But it's basically a message to people who aren't happy in their lives. Just imagine you were something else then, and see that everything you can think of being has its own environment and has its own existential questions of its being. The message isn't complex, and the song flows well. It has a little "Time in a Bottle" feel by Jim Croce, for reference. The "rose" reference is my personal favorite.

If you were a blade of grass
Lost in a field full of green
How could you tell that the time moved on past
Or what's real and what's just a dream
(Guitar break)
If you were a cloud in the sky
Floating through oceans of blue
Would you know to feel low, being up there so high
Or feel shy because we all see you
(Guitar break)
If you were a leaf on a tree
In the coming winds of the fall
And you turned burnt orange, dried up and broke free
Would you regret not having held on
(Guitar break)
If you were a rock in the dirt
No idea how many eons you've aged
Would you still feel at home, picked up from the earth
If some small boy drew on you a face
(Guitar break)
If you were a rose full of thorns
And bloomed bright red for the spring
Would you wilt away if picked by lovers forlorn
Or rejoice at the joy you might bring
(Guitar break)
If you were a small drop of rain
Hurling straight toward the ground
Would you embrace your fate or try hard to evade
The doom in store when you come down
(Guitar break)
If you were a feather fell loose
Just blowing around on the wind
Would you care what you saw or just move on through
Seeing the same things time and again
(Guitar break)
