Katahdin
This is a lyric that's a true story, about me getting frostbite trying to climb Mount Katahdin. Mount Katahdin is the highest point in Maine, and one of the toughest climbs that I've ever done. I was trying to do this in winter obviously, and that is probably the toughest time to climb that mountain. First of all you have to hike in 13 miles pulling in a sled with all your gear, plus carrying your pack with other gear. That day it was so cold, with the wind chill it was probably 20 something below zero. Everything froze within an hour. The only thing that I had that didn't freeze was my trail mix. For some reason things went wrong, either I didn't drink and eat enough the day before, or I didn't eat enough in the morning before the hike. When I got to the cabin and took my mittens off, all my fingertips were blue. But there was a happy ending, because the park is covered by the rangers year round. So one of them came to check on us the next morning saw my fingertips and gave me a ride on his snowmobile back to my car. Basically because of that my fingers were saved. But it goes to show you, that even someone experienced like me, can have things go wrong really fast. You have to make good decisions up there, and I certainly didn't make one that day

On a frigid and blustery day
In Baxter State Park
Hiking with two friends
It went wrong from the start
Everything froze
Including my hands
A victim of the land
Where anything goes
Trying to climb the main mountain
Also know as Katahdin
We got caught in the storm
Cuz in Winter that's the norm
Now I'm used to the cold
Never had frostbite
And I would find out
Cuz my hands were frozen by night
The mountains giveth and taketh
So you better have respect
Cuz if you don't
You may wind up dead
Trying to climb the "Main Mountain
Also know as Katahdin
We got caught in the storm
Cuz in Winter that's the norm
The first to the summit
Were the Abenaki's
Protected by the God's
There was beauty as far as their eyes could see
Many people of tried
And have met the mountains wrath
But if you summit
It's one of the best times you'll ever have
Trying to climb the "Main Mountain
Also know as Katahdin
We got caught in the storm
Cuz in Winter that's the norm
I didn't get to the top
And my hands would heal
One thing I know
In any season, the danger is real
There's no doubt
I will try again
One of these Winters
And hope for a different end
Trying to climb the "Main Mountain
Also know as Katahdin
We got caught in the storm
Cuz in Winter that's the norm
The Main Mountain
Katahdin
Katahdin
