The Witch

(Mark Walsh)

Hi. Yea, so I recently watched a movie about a medieval witch, which got me thinking about the Salem Witch Trials and how women were accused of witchcraft and then stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. This song I guess is about a man who loses his love as she’s accused of being a witch. Thanks for looking.

Place your hands on my heart and cast your spell A witch you say, well, what the hell They may drag you from my arms, send you to trial I ask you to wait my love, wait for a while. They’ll take you down, they’ll blacken your name I will never forsake you, never let you take the blame. The crowd it cheers, feverish for death, to see your blood Have faith my love, pray I’ll be there, coming like the flood The fire is lit, the tree now burns, air is hot. Fighting through the flesh, smothered by the rot. They take you there, they tie your arms. Men so blind, never known your charms A hood is placed, your beauty goes dark, clothes torn I’m close now my love, hear me cry, like a love new born. I reach out to you, you cannot see, my voice drowned out Like a skip in time, all goes still, my vain shout. The flames lick your limbs, yet silent you stay These men have condemned you, to death by their say I cannot watch, like a coward I run away But I have left behind my love, my one true way They said you were a witch, a danger to all They said your charms beguiled, no spell too small. All I know is two people have died You by the flame and me through my pride.
