Brian Hendrix

Brian Hendrix still writes the old songs that Townes Van Zandt inspired in him. Catchy enough for the modern country audience, but meaningful and poignant as the lyrics that shaped an entire genre.

I sometimes like writing anthem-style songs. This really fits that bill. "War Paint Wanda" is about a tough-as-nails woman from a long time ago who was a legendary warrior and also very mean and tough. This is a fun song to play and sing, and it always gets a cool reaction with people asking if Wanda is based on a real person in history.
Just a fun, quick song that illustrates how we all fail in life the first time we try something. It's fine to do that! As the song reminds us, nobody gets it right in one try. I think I bottled things up well enough, though the concept can always be expanded on. Also the chorus is sort of written out phonetically, so you can get an idea of how the song flows.
A classic-style love song that I wrote some time ago. Just now getting around to posting it. It has a lot of personal meaning for me, and maybe this sort of sentiment has personal meaning for a lot of people. It's good from a guy's or girl's perspective. No specific pronouns.
Just a different way to say "You can take the girl out the country, but can't take the country out the girl." This is a very upbeat, rockin' song with a lot of tempo and a powerful chorus. I really like how this turned out, especially the bridge into the chorus. My favorite part of the song. This is also a story a lot of people can relate to who ended up in the city. The chorus pauses for a measure after the ellipses, and it sounds really good that way.
A story about a smart, funny, magnetically beautiful girl who doesn't realize all of those things about herself. She thinks that men are only interested in her for wearing skirts or just how she looks, not realizing how exciting of a person she is. So it's a little song about a man speaking with her and noticing these qualities about her, and he thinks that she must not know how awesome she is.
