Dead Flowers Held Sacred MMXVIII

(Marquis Smith )

D.F.H.S. MMXVIII is a second installment. Still drawing heavy influence on Doom/death. Imagine this being spoken intro to an album with eeire background with clean vocals.

Kiss sodden & honey glazed tongues To God our sighs translate to cries We're cursed therefore we thirst We toast with lust held high Ardor is a hanging fruit We taste. We sigh. And heed not nature's intended use My unapologetic sinner Who whispers, "enter" Passion waves it's scepter & moral dies On clouds we lay & cover in blankets of stars The wages of sin received in full We blush like a rose. Why? Only God may know We wilt in each other's arms. Why? Only the Greeks may know

Dead Flowers Held Sacred

By Marquis Smith

D.F.H.S. details romance and same-sex love (also the title to my compilation of writings). I can imagine this being spoken. Dispensed of heavy metallic sound to evoke the presence of dark romanticism. Maybe some soft piano. I feel this would make a good album opener. Heavily inspired by early My Dying Bride. No rhyme scheme. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Death/doom metal/gothic metal.

Lamentations

By Marquis Smith

"Lamentations" depicts an outsider. Though this person is alive they feel dead inside. This represents depression at it's lowest form. This person never got the help they needed. And things take a turn for the worst in the end. Purposely written vague. This piece is heavily inspired by bands like Opeth. No rhyme scheme here. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Progressive death metal/progressive rock/progressive metal.

The Wingless Bird

By Marquis Smith

"The Wingless Bird" contains grief & despair. Yes, this is where hope dies. The individual dreams of a better life. Forget it! He is awoken only to find reality! And we all know reality hits like a ton of bricks. Classic AABB & ABAB. Heavily inspired by Paradise Lost. Preferred genres (but not limited to) Death-doom/gothic metal.

Lost Song

By Marquis Smith

"The hurting ones always roam unchaperoned", a rather dark sentiment that echo through the entire piece. This person feels that even hope itself has betrayed them. They feel alone and abandoned. "Don't talk me down from the ledge," the author solicits... rather literal or figurative, I'd let the reader decide. Heavily influenced by early Anathema. No rhyme pattern throughout. Their character's cry is his lost song. Preferred genres (but not limited to) gothic metal/alternative metal/experimental.

Just Like My Daddy Raised Me

By Brian Hendrix

A song I wrote about how a lot of people tell me I look and act like my father. I think this is something a lot of men can relate to, how we end up our father's sons. I'm really happy with how this turned out. It's one of those songs that hit home more for me now since my father passed away. It's a classic style of country song here, to be sure.
