Hello Banjo

(Melanie Thompson)

We country folk love us some bluegrass music. And the major player in bluegrass music is the banjo. My grandfather played the banjo. And my mama told me that she loved to listen to him play. She said he was very good. Unfortunately, my grandfather died before I was born. So, I never had the honor of meeting him or of listening to him play his banjo. I wrote this song with three things in mind: the banjo, the south (where I grew up), and my grandfather. This song is dedicated to him and to all admirers of country music and lovers of bluegrass. To Grandpa Allen. Hope to see you in heaven.

Verse 1. Hello bright sun. Hello Banjo! Hello dandelions. Hello Banjo! Hello tall pines. Hello Banjo! Hello Tennessee! Hello Banjo! Chorus 1. I'm sitting on a stump wondering if I should jump. Fly through the air like a bird. Oh mercy, mercy me! What a sight that'd be. A banjo flying all around the world. Verse 2. Hello night stars. Hello Banjo! Hello easy breeze. Hello Banjo! Hello mountain tops. Hello Banjo! Hello Tennessee! Hello Banjo! Chorus 2. Still sitting on this stump wondering if I should jump. Fly through the air like a bird. Oh mercy, mercy me! What a sight that'd be. A banjo flying all around the world. Bridge. *Banjo plays intense solo* Go Banjo, go! Verse 3. Hello happiness. Hello Banjo! Hello peace of mind. Hello Banjo! Hello fellowship. Hello Banjo! Hello Tennessee! Hello Banjo! Chorus 3. I'm not sitting on no stump wondering if I should jump. Fly through the air like a bird. 'Cause Tennessee's my home. I'll live here and grow old. My little piece of heaven on this Earth. End. *Banjo plays short, joyful outro*

The Distance Between Me and You

By Melanie Thompson

When we first meet someone we like, we believe them to be our soulmate. That special someone put here on Earth for us and us alone. But as time goes by and situations occur that feeling goes away. And when it does so do you. This song is about a couple who could not be away from each other for a minute. I knew this couple. And as the years rolled on, they both eventually separated and rolled themselves on too. One moved up there. The other up yonder. Never to see or speak to each other again. I hope you enjoy the lyrics. I enjoyed writing them.

The Piper

By Melanie Thompson

We all have done things we regret. Things that hurt others. Things that hurt us. I know I have. And for each bad thing, I have paid dearly. I have paid the Piper many times over. In fact, if I had a penny for every time that blood-sucking gangster came knocking at my door he would end up owing me. We can't run from the Piper. We can't hide from the Piper. He is a necessary evil. Or a necessary good? Maybe, he is simply justice. This song may seem dark, but it really isn't. When I wrote this song, I was thinking about how better off we all are when we take responsibility for our actions. That may sound nostalgic, but I believe it. And I hope you do to. My advice when you see the Piper. Just pay the man and move on.

Being Human

By Melanie Thompson

Today, it seems like a majority of people are insistent that they are "little gods" or have the powers of "the gods". Myself, I never wanted to be a "god". I never wanted superpowers either. I have my five senses given to me, to you, to us, from God. They are enough. We human beings are quite remarkable just the way we are. Sure, there is always room for improvement. But just look at us. How far we have come. The way we have seemed to survive against all the odds. If you are one of those who wish to be as great as God or better. I hope this song will change your mind. I hope you see just how great you already are. And I hope you understand and believe in your heart that it is O.K. to be human.

Pick and Choose

By Melanie Thompson

When I wrote this song I was thinking about Frank Sinatra and that 50's swing style he mastered. I thought to myself, "What would Frank say if he found out that the woman he loved was cheating on him?". The genders were swithched. And, of course, some phrases. But, the sentiment, the message in the song sounds like him. At least, that was my goal. Sinatra was/is one of the greats. He would never allow anyone to disrespect him. Snap his fingers and you were gone. If he wanted you to "Pick and Choose" you did it. Just be glad he gave you until, "The end of the day". For Frank Sinatra.

I Am Not A Joke

By Steven Soucy

This lyric is both quite serious and also tongue in cheek simultaneously. If that makes sense. Do you get to a point where you are sick of people not taking you seriously? I think we all do. But I'll tell you simply, I Am Not A Joke
