The Distance Between Me and You

(Melanie Thompson)

When we first meet someone we like, we believe them to be our soulmate. That special someone put here on Earth for us and us alone. But as time goes by and situations occur that feeling goes away. And when it does so do you. This song is about a couple who could not be away from each other for a minute. I knew this couple. And as the years rolled on, they both eventually separated and rolled themselves on too. One moved up there. The other up yonder. Never to see or speak to each other again. I hope you enjoy the lyrics. I enjoyed writing them.

Verse 1. We were closer than babies born seconds apart. Two shoes on the same foot. Two beats from one heart. We were always together. Going places together. Two inches from you was two inches too far. Chorus. Now the distance between us is wider than Texas. So wide, the Delta'd fit through. No, the trail Appalachian is no match. In fact, the space that divides us, the Earth's whole circumference, that's the distance between me and you. Verse 2. Crosswise and side-ways we drifted apart. Two fish in a kettle and the kettle too hot. Never together. For the best. For the better. No distance from you is a distance too far. Chorus. The distance between us is wider than Texas. So wide, the Delta'd fit through. No, the trail Appalachian is no match. In fact, the space that divides us, the Earth's whole circumference, that's the distance between me and you.

The Piper

By Melanie Thompson

We all have done things we regret. Things that hurt others. Things that hurt us. I know I have. And for each bad thing, I have paid dearly. I have paid the Piper many times over. In fact, if I had a penny for every time that blood-sucking gangster came knocking at my door he would end up owing me. We can't run from the Piper. We can't hide from the Piper. He is a necessary evil. Or a necessary good? Maybe, he is simply justice. This song may seem dark, but it really isn't. When I wrote this song, I was thinking about how better off we all are when we take responsibility for our actions. That may sound nostalgic, but I believe it. And I hope you do to. My advice when you see the Piper. Just pay the man and move on.

Being Human

By Melanie Thompson

Today, it seems like a majority of people are insistent that they are "little gods" or have the powers of "the gods". Myself, I never wanted to be a "god". I never wanted superpowers either. I have my five senses given to me, to you, to us, from God. They are enough. We human beings are quite remarkable just the way we are. Sure, there is always room for improvement. But just look at us. How far we have come. The way we have seemed to survive against all the odds. If you are one of those who wish to be as great as God or better. I hope this song will change your mind. I hope you see just how great you already are. And I hope you understand and believe in your heart that it is O.K. to be human.

Pick and Choose

By Melanie Thompson

When I wrote this song I was thinking about Frank Sinatra and that 50's swing style he mastered. I thought to myself, "What would Frank say if he found out that the woman he loved was cheating on him?". The genders were swithched. And, of course, some phrases. But, the sentiment, the message in the song sounds like him. At least, that was my goal. Sinatra was/is one of the greats. He would never allow anyone to disrespect him. Snap his fingers and you were gone. If he wanted you to "Pick and Choose" you did it. Just be glad he gave you until, "The end of the day". For Frank Sinatra.

The Tailor of My Life

By Melanie Thompson

I have learned that peace and happiness in this world are not so easily obtained. It takes effort and skill to manage life's daily stresses. It takes focus and determination to bring about success. Work, work, work and then work some more. Work on yourself. Work to become a better person. Work until you have accomplished your goals. These lyrics are about occupation. Rather, occupying yourself until you have become exactly what you wanted to be.

The Embrace

By Christopher Van Name

Inspired by Hank Willis Thomas’s bronze sculpture, “The Embrace”, which was installed on Boston Commons in Boston, Massachusetts, US last year. It depicts the four arms intertwined, symbolizing the hug that Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, shared after he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. I tried to imagine the emotions that Dr. King might have been feeling.

The juggler

By Howard Aronson

This lyric is a quirky lyric it's short, and would probably repeat itself after it's done. It's a rock genre. It's about a person who's always got a scam, whose dreams are absurdly and wildly fake, and who tells lies constantly. He tries to juggle all of these things into his life and realizes that he can't do it. Most importantly other people realize who he is. He's the juggler, he's in a circus world in his head
