This is very much in the vein of an old-school folk song. It's basically just about someone's life down by the river. It's where they feel most at home and where they've lived most of their life. In southern states here in America, the riverside is its own subculture.

A lot is said about love at first sight, and fools rushing in, etc. Though millions upon millions of people do hit it off right away, and they don't need to date a lot to fall in love. This is a song about a guy who falls in love with a girl on the first date and wants to be with her. Of course, change some pronouns around and it can work for anyone.

The "Cardinal's Inn" is a play on words: Cardinal sin. This is a song about spouses who show up so often to the same seedy motel that it's taken on a different name. It could work in any genre. It's a little on the upbeat side, the way I wrote it.

This lyric could be about a relationship, or just a friendship where the person doesn't care that you're caught in a web so to speak. Time and time again they let you down, but you keep going back for more. They find it amusing that you do, and they turn up the heat and do it even more. Basically they don't care at all, and think it's funny that you try so hard and they have total control over you. This happens all too often in relationship and friendships. That's because people are so consumed with themselves, it's so selfish that they take whatever they can get from a friendship or a relationship and just keep on going without reciprocating.

This lyric is about the state of the world today. It's so sad how there's so much hate, violence, war, greed, and there are so many who are in denial of all of that. The people who spread the conspiracy theories the far right and the far left who are so extreme. They can't see what's right in front of them which is a world that's in peril and going down fast. This next year 2023, will be a huge test for everyone in the world. I feel like we're on the brick of something really bad, like a world war, and it's up to the people who see all of this to intervene in some way. It would be so sad to watch this world go to hell in a handbasket, unfortunately that's where we're headed if some things don't change fast.
